About Maureen

A place to feel seen, not reduced to a symptom.
My path to counseling began as a calling I deferred for nearly 30 years. During that time, I built a career in the information technology sector and learned how to listen closely, understand complex systems, and help people find a way forward when the path was not obvious.
Life also taught me beyond work: being a single professional woman, marrying later and learning the roles of wife and “extra mother” (EM), and helping care for aging parents while grieving the loss of one. These experiences did not give me all the answers. I do not enter therapy pretending to have them. My hope is to help you discover and trust the answers within yourself.
I am a graduate of the Master of Arts in Counseling program at The Family Institute at Northwestern University, where I prepared for clinical mental health counseling through psychodynamic thinking, evidence-based practice, and supervised clinical experience.
My style is relational, compassionate, and grounded in respect for the pace at which healing unfolds. I welcome young adults through older adults, including members of Gen Z through the Baby Boomer generation. I currently provide clinical services through EMDR Group of Chicago and work with Healing Place on a part-time basis. I do not operate an independent private practice.
My approach
I integrate complementary ways of working so therapy can respond to your story, your nervous system, and your goals. It does not ask you to fit into one prescribed method.
We explore how early relationships, family systems, culture, and past experiences may continue to shape present-day patterns.
We build a more compassionate awareness of thoughts, emotions, and body sensations without judgment or pressure to “fix” them.
When appropriate, EMDR offers a structured, research-supported way to process distressing experiences that still feel present.
Brain and nervous-system science can deepen understanding while your meaning, relationships, context, and humanity remain central.
How I can help
You do not need to decide whether your experience is “big enough” to deserve support. Pain is met here with compassion, curiosity, and grace.
EMDR therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a structured therapy that can help the brain reprocess distressing experiences. It does not erase what happened; it can help the memory feel less immediate, overwhelming, or defining.

Ask whether EMDR may be a fit“Healing is not about becoming someone new. It is about making space to reconnect with the parts of you that have been carrying too much, often for too long.”
